Historical Riding Costume Gets a 3D Update

As part of the Flanders Technology & Innovation Festival, which took place on 23 and 24 March 2024 at the Lotto Arena and Sportpaleis, Masjien and Future Front Row curated a fashion show that is as traditional as it is revolutionary. The agency for fashion, sustainability and technology offered MoMu, among others, the chance to showcase a digital silhouette. By projecting models and looks on a hologram, it aims to highlight the digital shift.

MoMu sees in this innovation an opportunity to make the objects that we preserve in the archives accessible in an innovative way, thus allowing people to experience fashion differently. For this project, the museum joined forces with d_archive, the digital design studio it has previously worked with, to display a static object in motion.

The team at d_archive created a 3D replica of a 115-year-old linen riding costume by Berlin tailor Hermann Hofmann from the MoMu Collection. They brought it to life during the performance in a way that would be impossible with historical garments. Bakermat's digital fabrics and a soundscape by Lola 'Lolalita' Ilegems complete the creative collaboration.

The digital is a creative blank canvas that offers endless possibilities. We believe in experimentation and innovation, so we are delighted to partner with d_archive to bring our own creative interpretation to our collection.
