Concert AMUZ: Liam Byrne — Thresholds | Drempels

At the threshold between old and new, tradition and innovation, acoustic and electronic, we encounter Liam Byrne and his viola da gamba. Thresholds | Drempels explores borders – and gently pushes them outward.

With contemporary works by Nico Muhly, Alex Mills, Freya Waley-Cohen and Max Andrzejewski, Byrne transforms his centuries-old instrument into a resonant voice of the 21st century. Electronics enrich the warm sonority of gut strings, historical playing techniques unlock new expressive registers, and the arts intertwine in this singular cross-over performance.

This concert marks the closing event of the AMUZ festival VIOLA DA GAMBAinPRIMETIME, hosted at MoMu. On the evening itself, visitors can explore the collection presentation and the current exhibition Embroidering Palestine.
