Heartlands (2021, Willy Vanderperre)

A radical and experimental ode to youth, both naturalistic to grotesque. A visual poem in three acts. Set in the quiet, Belgian region of Flanders - where Vanderperre himself grew up - the film revolves around five teenagers growing up in a chaotic way; in scenes we see actors dancing, drinking, doing drugs and bullying or even abusing each other. Heartlands is driven more by feeling than story.
