The Arenbergs belonged to the high nobility for five centuries. The combination of their power, wealth and passion for art and culture resulted in a series of impressive collections.
The exhibition brings together pieces from Rubens, Veronese, Dürer and Jordaens, amongst others, interspersed with preciosa, never shown before documents, a collection of ballgowns, masquarade costumes and valuable interior textiles. Together they narrate the glorious history of this noble family.
I am especially impressed by the originality and the unique character of this project. The exhibition in Museum M is an exceptional opportunity to discover pieces from a rich art patrimonium which you may never be able to see together again.
MoMu shared its expertise with Museum M for this exhibition. The collection team of MoMu restored and created custom bustes for 18th and 19th century costumes.
Curator Peter Carpreau, curator and department head of Old Master will guide the MoMu+Friends through the exhibition.
