Tied indigo-dyed fabric
Bluefingers I

This Cool Japan inspired two-day masterclass is organised at the MAS as part of the MoMu loans.

Clamped fabric
Bluefingers I Lieve Jacob

Shibori is one of the oldest indigo dyeing techniques in Japan. The fabric is folded, tied, twisted, clamped between blocks or stitched to prevent the dye from reaching certain parts of the fabric, creating special patterns and colour effects.

In this two-day masterclass, you will learn several techniques on the first day and practise dyeing in the natural indigo dye bath. On the second day, you will dye a scarf using one of the Shibori techniques that you have learned.

The lunch break is from 12h30 until 13h30. There are several lunch possibilities at MAS and nearby.

Lieve Jacob (Bluefingers studio) is a textile artist and lecturer specialising in natural dyeing and Shibori. She attended classes and workshops with internationally recognised textile artists and teachers and travelled around the world to deepen her knowledge of traditional dyeing techniques. For her, working with textiles also involves the preservation and transfer of this hand-made heritage that was considered more valuable than gold centuries ago and must not be lost.
