This masterclass draws inspiration from a jacket with embroidery from the Autumn-Winter 2012-13 collection by A.F.Vandevorst in MoMu's collection presentation.
During this workshop, you will learn to process cantilles, which are usually used in gold embroidery, in different ways and in combination with metalamel and sequins. The embroidery can be made into a brooch afterwards or you can appliqué it on a garment.
Kenny Damian is a textile restorer and freelance embroiderer. She has studied various hand embroidery techniques such as aari embroidery, Kutch (India) embroidery, gold and bead embroidery and needlepoint lace. She has learned these techniques and skills directly from embroiderers and through classes at home and abroad. She applies the techniques to herself or in combination with others and does so for both contemporary and historical designs.
Because I find it important not only to preserve the objects, but also not to lose the knowledge and the different techniques in which they were made, I started to learn different embroidery techniques.
