Interactive visit to the exhibition - higher education

Young people become acquainted with new art and fashion-related insights and ideas. Typical of the exhibitions of the ModeMuseum is the creative and innovative design which emphasises the relationship between fashion and other art disciplines such as photography, contemporary art, video, etc. To actively involve students in the visit, they are assigned tasks or ponder the theme. In this way, we stimulate them to form their own critical opinion.

  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Guide: EUR 60 + EUR 3.50 per person (museum admission)
  • Number of participants: maximum 20
  • Target group: higher (secondary) education

The ModeWandeling (FashionWalk)

The guide starts in the entrance hall of the ModeMuseum with a brief overview of the history of Belgian fashion. Afterwards the walk begins. The guide puts together a route in consultation with teaching staff. The youths walk by a few shop windows in the surroundings of the ModeNatie.

The guide provides an explanation to some leading designers such as Dries Van Noten, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dirk Van Saene, A.F. Vandevorst, Veronique Branquinho, Maison Martin Margiela, Ann Demeulemeester, and Anna Heylen.

Highly recommended for fashion courses!

MoMu Lectures

De Antwerpse School

This lecture tells the story of Antwerp Fashion. The Antwerp style is often described as a fashion style with a strong feeling for identity and tradition, as a unique balance between realism and creativity. This style was the basis of the international success story of the ‘Antwerp Six’ (Dirk Bikkembergs, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene, Marina Yee), Martin Margiela, and the next generations of designers which each added new aspects to the Antwerp identity. All these designers are very different in terms of style and inspiration, but there is one aspect that binds them: their training at the fashion department of the Hogeschool Antwerpen.

Accessories remembered

Clothing rarely looks complete without accessories. They are part of what we wear every day. No wonder, therefore, that the museum's collection contains numerous examples of accessories dating from the 18th to the 20th centuries. What is striking is that accessories are very much related to the era. This lecture focuses on individual items that were once indispensable, but have now completely, or as good as, disappeared. A few examples of these accessories from the ModeMuseum's own collection will be presented during the lecture.

  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Price: 120 euros
  • Number of participants: minimum 15 - maximum 30
  • Dates: possible by request on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays - in the morning
  • Target group: higher (secondary) education, youth organisations, ...
