The MoMu-collection largely consists of the inheritance of the former Textiel- en Kostuummuseum, an extremely varied collection of clothes, lace, embroidery, fabrics and tools for traditional textile processing, mainly from the Southern Netherlands. The oldest items date back to the 16th century, the emphasis lies on the 19th century
The MoMu adds a contemporary vision to this inheritance and, thanks to its acquisition policy, items of mainly Belgian fashion designers.
The Modemuseum entered about 70 percent of the collection in an electronic collection registration system. Digital photographs were made of about 60 percent of the collection.
